FAQ

Q: I get no MIDI activity when playing.

A: Make sure you selected (tick the checkbox) one or more MIDI input devices on the config screen.

Q: I get no sound. I can see MIDI activity though.

A: You need to assign MIDI channels to one or more stops. Click on the "1" next to a stop to assign it to MIDI channel 1, and you should hear something when playing notes on that channel. Note that some stops might not have pipes at the octave you're playing, so be sure to check across the octave range.

Q: I get red "Buffer underrun" indicators while playing

A: Your system can't load and mix sample data fast enough. Try the following:

Q: My audio output crackles or cuts out

A: This is likely gain or CPU stress. If you see "Buffer underrun", follow the steps from the previous question. If not, reduce the Gain setting.

Q: Where can I get organ samples?

A: Try Lars Virtual Pipe Organ Site or Piotr Grabowsky.

Q: I loaded an organ but all I get is white noise when playing

A: Your organ uses wavpack which is not supported by RustyPipes. Please either convert the samples to PCM WAV or try a different sample set.

Q: My latency is too high

A: Reduce buffer size in config (try 256 or 128). Use wired MIDI controllers and headphones (Bluetooth adds delay). On Linux, use PulseAudio or Jack instead of native ALSA. On Windows, use ASIO if possible.

Q: I am trying to install on an arch based distro but I am getting a linker error involving "zstd"

A: If using yay or paru, try: ZSTD_SYS_USE_PKG_CONFIG=1 yay -S rusty-pipes
